In association with the Spinners & Weavers Association of Korea (SWAK), we delivered our ‘Cotton Classing’ training course for the third year in a row to 15 delegates earlier this month in South Korea.
Developed in response to industry demand, the five-day training course was delivered by Karsten Froese (ICA Bremen) and concentrated on the classing of US and other Upland raw cottons. The training took place at the KOTITI testing and research institute in Gyeonggi-do.
One delegate who benefitted from the training said: “It's a perfect educational course to learn visual grading and staple pulling focused more on actual samples, like universal standards and samples, and how to apply that in the field”.
Another delegate said: “Now I am able to grade the actual cottons laid out at our factory and I’m very satisfied”.
Following the training, Karsten said: “I was once again impressed by the delegates’ motivation and dedication to learn about cotton. With a strong focus on classing, this year’s training provided a thorough explanation of different quality matters so that delegates had both the knowledge and experience to use their new skills straight away. As with all our bespoke courses, the training was tailored to meet the exact needs and requests of the delegates and their companies.
I would like to thank SWAK and KOTITI’s President, Sang-Rag Lee, for their continued support in helping us deliver this training so successfully.”
The practical training was based on approved standard procedures for visual grading and staple pulling. Theory was covered along with delving into the agreed standards and regulations for quality evaluation according to the rules of the International Cotton Association Ltd.
ICA Bremen also delivered a bespoke, five-day ‘Classing & Testing’ training course to six delegates of Nouvelle Societe Cotonniere du Togo N.S.C.T. in Bremen last month.
In addition to our ‘Learning about Machinery’ and ‘Classing & Testing’ training which will take place later this year, we also plan to deliver a new, ‘Understanding Cotton’ retailer training course along with more bespoke training to the cotton community around the world.
