Sixty years, still going strong

Over 60 years ago the ‘Bremen Cotton Round Tests’ were first conducted in Bremen, Germany by Bremer Baumwollbörse and the Bremen Fibre Institute (FIBRE).

These trials check the reliability of test results of participating laboratories to demonstrate their capability to meet recommended standards and to improve their performance.

In 2012, they were renamed the ‘ICA Bremen Round Trials’ in cooperation with ICA Bremen. In the first round of 2018, 116 laboratories participated with a high level of participation from Asia, especially India and China.

Axel Drieling (FIBRE) says: "The high participation shows that there is a continuous need for cotton round trials. Compared to the CSITC Round Test and the USDA's HVI Check Test, the ICA Bremen Round Trials use cotton varieties from a wide range of cotton-growing regions and qualities. They also include further testing methods, parameters and instruments beyond HVI – something that is requested worldwide.

“We are planning further developments for the implementation and evaluation of the ICA Bremen Round Trials. Participating laboratories will be able to upload their measurement results directly online. A newly designed evaluation will be introduced at the end of the year and the upload facility will be launched at the beginning of 2019.

Financed by ICA Bremen, the trials are free of charge to all participating laboratories.
