International Laboratory Certification Scheme

About the scheme

The scheme involves the assessment and international certification of cotton testing laboratories to implement an internationally recognised standard.

This will establish a list of laboratories located worldwide which meet a standard level of quality assurance, so that they can be used to resolve quality disputes in line with the ICA Bylaws & Rules, as well as provide a service to the cotton industry.

The scheme is available to any individual who has fulfilled the certification criteria and is not on or related to a firm which is on the CICCA List of Unfulfilled Awards.

Why certify your laboratory?

  • WORLDWIDE RECOGNITION of credibility and competence
  • ADVICE and information from experts in the industry
  • SET A HIGH STANDARD for your laboratory to achieve and maintain
  • PROMOTION of your laboratory on our website
  • A MARKETING ADVANTAGE with full use of the 'ICA Bremen Certified Laboratory' logo

What is the process?

We have developed the scheme based on ASTM International (American Society for Testing and Materials International) and CSITC (Commercial Standardization of Instrument Testing of Cotton), as well as building on the good practices of USDA (US Department of Agriculture) and our own laboratory experience, to produce a certification process that will be widely accepted and recognised as being of the very highest standards.

Download our certification process flow chart.

What is the criteria?

We have adopted the following eight criteria in our certification process:

  1. Laboratory Specification / Conditioning
  2. Instrument and Maintenance
  3. Calibration and Internal Verification
  4. Testing Procedures and Samples
  5. External Verification
  6. Quality Management
  7. Human Resources
  8. On-site Inspection

What is the cost?

The annual certification fee is USD $2,000 (+VAT where applicable). The cost of travel and accommodation for on-site inspections every three years must be covered in addition to this fee.
